Location

Located on the east edge of Ely. No long driving time to get here and you are near town for all the conveniences.

Summary of job functions

Pack food; work with customer's menu list, do food inventory, help with food orders, help with packing and unpacking food packages.

Pack outfitting gear for customer's trips; clean and repair, if necessary, gear that has been returned from a trip; help other employees to clean & repair equipment.

Cleaning of; shower rooms, overnight accommodations, bathrooms, packroom area, store areas and common use areas.

Load and unload canoes, all gear, drive customers to and from their entry points, examine returned gear & canoes for damage. Yard & building maintenance.

Take customers into bait shop and advise them on fishing techniques, fishing equipment, fishing areas. Have good knowledge of items we carry and sell. Help conduct orientation sessions with customers on; gear, food, BWCA & Quetico regulations, wilderness etiquette & skills, and miscellaneous relevant information needed to insure a quality canoe trip.

Handle purchases in our outfitting retail store and bait shop. Need to learn how to handle purchases dealing with cash, check and credit cards. Keep store areas neat and in order. Clean & restock, count down registers and anything else that is required for closing store for the night.

All employees must be willing to carry out and all of the duties described above.

Training

We will give you on the job training for all of the functions required above. Any knowledge of our type of operations and job functions is a plus.

Dress and Conduct Code

Two Voyageur North staff shirts are provided to you. Any other shirts you need will be purchased by you, at cost. VNO shirts must be worn to work. Jeans and shorts can be worn but must be in good shape, clean and neat. Appearance should be well groomed and tidy. Foul language is not acceptable.

Work hours

Our shop is open from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily, seven days a week. You can expect to work anywhere from 35 to 48 hours a week, more if it is our peak time and more if you qualify as one of our better workers. Part time seasonal hours are also available.

Pay

Our wages begin at $6.25 an hour. Raises are solely based on quality of work we receive from you. Evaluations are made monthly.

Some of the benefits of working for Voyageur North

You are near town, no long driving needed. Anything sold in the outfitting store and bait/tackle shop is offered to you and your immediate family at cost; friends and non-immediate family are not included. Use of our canoes at no charge. Gear such as tents, sleeping bags, packs, etc. are also no fee as long as you clean them and get them ready for rental, on your own time. A friendly atmosphere to work in.
